Presentation for Mememoirs of a Phantom

For my memory film presentation idea I conceived an idea about man plagued by a repressed memory, he finds that the spirit of a young woman is haunting him, tormenting him for not helping her when she was alive.

He seeks out the whereabouts of her remains, he eventually uncovers the remains and is about to contact the authorities when he's suddenly ambushed the girl's spirit which is now in a zombified state, a horrific twist that comes out of left field.

This is based upon a short story that I've been writing titled Follow the Ghost.

Other certain inspirations came from Shakespeare's Hamlet, along with films such as.

Silence of the Lambs

The Sixth Sense

Ringu

The Ring, Ringu's 2002 American Remake

Ju-on: The Grudge

The Grudge, Ju-on: The Grudge 2004 American Remake

The Lovely Bones

Another influence was a segment from Litronom https://www.youtube.com/user/Litronom
custom story Amnesia the Small Horse.

Where a seemingly innocent anthropomorphic character becomes a malevolent zombie that entraps the
 protagonist to eternal tourer.

I've put together some still shots of my story idea.

Because I wasn't able to gain acces to an abandoned warehouse which was the suitable location to film this scene I had to scale down the idea and just use the hallway and stairwell of my flat. This is a rough representation of my idea.

Jennifer McRorie exhibition on scars

Jennifer McRorie is an artists who's work relates to the display of scars.

She's quoted saying.

"I wanted to show the idea that at some point, our bodies become a display of sorts, showing our histories, the times we've had; they're a reflection of our memories."

This has been an influence to the idea's I've considered about memories of scars

Ideas for Photography stills

For my photography project where I am to take 5 still shot centred around theme theme of memory I've considered various ideas.

Some of the ideas include.

Remembering the good times with your friends via an old beer bottle.

Placing a beer bottle beside a tombstone in memorial of the deceased.

Somebody reflecting on how they got their scar.

The healing process of a wound to a scar.

I've drawn sketches on other possible ideas.

Atmospheric sounds for Tori's film idea

For the memory project film our groups are going to film Tori's idea involving a scarf.

As part of the group I've been tasked to look up atmospheric sound effects and tutorials of how to create them.

The atmospheric sound effects would convey the feeling of a nightmare, I pictured soemthing similar to the video from the japanese film Ringu and its american remake.

Other sound examples that I found relevant included.

Atmospheric sound scape

Robert Christopher Haunted Sky

Kevin Macleod Gathering Darkness

I looked up a video about the making of the soundtrack of Alien Resurrection.

In the video they demonstrated experimental techniques on certain instruments such as rub rods and using a super ball on a gong.

Other examples of these techniques can be viewed in these videos.

Circus World Novelty Instrument: Rubbed Rods

Working with Gongs #3: Superball Friction Mallets/Flumi

I've also found a video of filmmaker Robert Rodriguez giving tutorial on protools and sound mixing.

Idea's I've considered for Memory

Memory is a vital part of our existence, memories enable us to be constantly aware of actions and future decisions, to reflect on experiences in the past and to be prepared for the future i.e. enacting the choices that lead to positive outcomes or to avoid repeating mistakes. It is the interminable process of the collective consciousness.
I’ve considered a variety of possible venues to take my film relating to the subject of memory. I want to engage the viewer with a mysterious yet forebodingly sinister environment, a dream like quality and moody atmosphere.
One idea I have is of an elderly man a trapped in a misty void, he sees some old picture frames of photos with family and friends all around him, their turning faded and distorted, the elderly man tries to best to gather the picture frames but the incinerate into heaps of ash and blow away in the wind, he then wonders around aimlessly lost and trying to find his way back, this reflects that with age comes the inevitable loss of memory.

Alzheimer's, the Loss of memory.

Another aspect of memory that fascinates me is alzheimer's decease, how a life time of memories can slowly diminish and the person doesn't remember anything about who they were.

Here's some photography by artist Tom Hussey in which is displays Elderly people who are portrayed as alzheimer's sufferers. They're looking into a mirror and instead of their reflection the see their younger selves.

I've found this very inspiration, even for a separate project which I intend to pursue as and novel someday. The possibilities it could offer as influence for my memory project remains to be seen.
